With the development of life science and the remarkable development of the field of genetic testing, various genetic tests are widely spread and new technologies are rapidly being introduced.
Insufficient systematic evaluation of the rapidly evolving genetic technologies can lead to inaccurate genetic tests, causing harm to patients or their families and negatively impacting the progress of the healthcare industry.
Genetic testing is a advanced-level test, and the genetic information obtained from the test may be leaked or abused for other purposes other than the treatment of the subject, so close supervision and management are required.
In accordance with Article 49-2 (1) of the Bioethics and Safety Act, the Korea Institute for Genetic Testing Evaluation was established in 2005 to induce improvement of the quality of genetic testing through proficiency evaluation and to ultimately contribute to the improvement of public health and welfare by suppressing unnecessary abuse of genetic testing.
The Korea Institute of Genetic Testing Evaluation will do its best to ensure that genetic testing institutions provide reliable test results, contribute to the development of the field of genetic testing, and ultimately contribute to the improvement of public health and welfare.
